The Indian Army is the land-based branch of the Indian armed forces and one of the three main branches. The Indian army ranks fourth in terms of military strength, firepower, weapons, and combat capability, according to the Global Firepower Index.
The Indian army is proud of its rich history and excellent track record of professional conduct. Since its formation, the Indian army has played an important role both before and after India’s independence in 1947.
The Indian army has a combat strength of 12,37,117 active soldiers and 9,60,000 reserve personnel. The Indian army has embarked upon a massive modernization drive in the last few decades, and now it is armed with the latest cutting-edge weapons.
The modern Indian army weapons and military hardware include the latest main battle tanks, infantry armoured vehicles, artillery, rockets, attack helicopters, anti-aircraft guns, missiles, self-propelled howitzers, UAVs and nuclear weapon delivery systems.
The primary mission of the Indian Army is to secure India’s security and international borders from external aggression and internal security threats. The Indian army also actively participates in various national emergencies.

The British Indian Army was first founded on 1st April 1895 during the British rule over India. The Indian army was founded on the 26th of January 1950, after India’s independence, marked by the end of colonial British rule. Army Day is celebrated every year on the 15th of January.

The Indian defense research organization ( DRDO ) has developed a number of sophisticated ground attack surface-to-surface missiles for the Indian armed forces. The guided missiles of the Indian army offer major strategic capability to the Indian army to hit any target with precision up to 10,000 km.
The ground target attack of the Indian army include Brahmos Missile ( Range – 290 km To 1000 km ) , Prithvi SRBM missile ( Range – 150 km To 500 km ), Agni LRBM missile ( Range – 900 km To 9900 km ), Pralay tactical missile ( Range – 100 km To 500 km ) and Nirbhay subsonic cruse missile ( Range – 100 km To 1500 km ).
The DRDO is also currently working on a number of projects to develop the intercontinental ballistic ICBM missile Surya with a range of up to 16,000 km. The DRDO is also working on incorporating the latest technology into the existing missiles currently in service.
